Monsieur Populaire - au naturel (1993) (MP3)

First live set, post Disko-Tech, after a heartbreaking breakup. Last time I had my heart broken I wasn`t doing music / noise. I remember during that period I wrote a lot of pissed off / angst ridden / depressed poetry. I used poetry as a catharsis to mend me inner wounds, it worked. This is a short (37.18) and sweet live set (the various tracks are mixed perfectly, there`s a nice musical / rhythmical evolution here, even an old geezer like myself feels like dancing naked in the moonlight). The music is a potent mix of: beat oriented instrumental tracks (intro cinq, laika, soyons sérieux), dance floor oriented techno (perverse, Venus, mentor 27 alpha 7 gamma), mighty impressive minimal techno (J+LHv2), and that quirky / kitsch techno tracks which I can`t stop listening (weenie boppie version 2). I recommend this one all the way baybee!!! Get it here:  http://jimmybeaulieu.com/monsieur-populaire/

Art is everywhere part 25

Postcards galore!!! Enjoy the show!!!

Hiroshima Yeah! # 124 – June2015 (zine)

This is me favorite 8.5 by 11 inches cut and paste, black and white, five pager, monthly zine. Cover star of this issue is none other than Alan Bennett (English playwright, screenwriter, author and actor). We also have on the front page poetry, `guilt, greed and genocide `. Favorite poems this time around are:
New Dark Age
They get so angry
Because they can`t download
Some insignificant shit
Onto their phone,
Instantly.
They are a generation that feels
Entitled to everything
Bit knows the true value
Of nothing.
When the new dark age comes,
It will be all they deserve.
And:
The past is a parallel universe
The past is a parallel universe
In which I have a job I enjoy,
In which I have hair,
Have more years ahead of me
Than behind.
But I don`t care about any of that
Because the past is also a parallel universe
In which I don`t know you,
And knowing you makes
All of the other shit
Worthwhile.
And:
Gamblers
It`s not about the money,
It`s about the risk.
And last but not least:
Humanity
Don`t look at humanity
Too closely,
It will burn your eyes out.
Need I say more? Simply magnificent!!! Then we have the usual stuff like: `the great rock `n `roll tolchock, selected dispatches from an ultra-violent offender out on probation `(Gary Simmons baybee!!!), music & DVD reviews, `I am the westend, I am the love and I am the fucking light too… I guess` (more texting gozungus nonsense from the likes of Mark Ritchie, Gary Simmons, Maggie Ponce and T-Mobile), `Stonehenge` (a short rant dissing Stonehenge by Robert Dellar), and we end all of them things with `the queue`. Time stops still when you`re waiting in line like a bunch of sardines. Don`t just stand there. For our next trick you need the following four items: paper, pen, some stamps and an envelope. Hiroshima Yeah! # 123 – May 2015 (zine)

This is the latest issue of my favorite 8.5 by 11 inches cut and paste, black and white, monthly zine (six pages long this time around). The cover star of this issue Chan Marshall herself i.e. Cat Power. Let`s begin with poetry and `the certainty of sickness and sleep `. Top notch poems, favorite ones are:
Reasons to kill
Sometimes it`s
Everything they do:
The way they talk,
The way they move,
The way they shovel snacks
Into their little faces,
All reasons to kill.
And
The teenage me
The teenage me would be disgusted
That I have coffee in McDonald`s
Most mornings.
The teenage me would scoff
At my new-found hatred of drugs.
The teenage me would not recognize
The person I have become;
Bloated, bored and adrift.
But who I was
Is not who I am
And the teenage me
Was a bit of a twat.
Damned, I can relate to that. The teenage me would go out every weekend the get laid and / or wasted in no particular order. The old age me likes to stay home and work on various art related projects and enjoy a cold one (actually more than one, hey. It`s a figure of speech). Gary Simmons provides us with `1.5 years on probation `a monthly installment about life in jail. Gary has a unique writing style kinda like a mix between Charles Bukowski and E M Cioran (for his nihilist imagery). There`s a couple of music, DVD and zine reviews as well. Next in line we have `a rainbow for me mum ` (a threesome texting collaboration with Mark Ritchie, Gary Simmons and Wayne) and `guide to sex, love and relationships part 2 ` (Simon Morris). Mark ends this zine with `work `. A short story about being stuck with a job you hate and remotely trying to deal with it. At least it pays the B + B (da bills and da booze). Shy Rights Movement – draining the sunlight (cd-r)

I love receiving real letters / parcels by the good old unreliable, nearly obsolete rectal / postal system (gimme some physical media DAMMIT!!!). Physical, physical I wanna get physical let`s get into physical lemme hear your body talk. I`m getting carried away, again (kinda easy in my case). Anyways, where was I? Oh yeah, this is the latest Shy Rights Movement short, short, ok then, mini-album (4 songs 17.25 minutes). SRM is the solo music project from one Mark Ritchie. Mark is also the head cheese / writer of my favorite monthly zine, the one and only `Hiroshima Yeah! `. The music on this album is pretty basic. Mark sings and plays electric guitar at the same time (just like a twotopus i.e. two hands octopus). I like this mini album a lot. The songs are a nice mix of indie / alternative / country / low-fi with a nice homemade feeling. The electric guitar sounds at times sludgy / grungy, kinda like a threesome between Tad, Low and maybe Neil Young`s more electric guitar moments, good stuff. Mark does a nice version of `Big night `(written by Mark Eitzel, taken from American Music Club`s second album `Engine`). Contact:

Monsieur Populaire – Monsieur Populaire et le mondocle interstellaire (1993) (MP3)

Jimmy Beaulieu composed this set at the last minute for a rave which happened in the city of Granby, circa fall 1993. A great live set where the music oscillates between: acid techno (funlight, océans, le ge re – version originale), dance floor techno + big beats included (mentor 27 – version 2, whispery wind, world ends), old school techno music (machine, cerveau édenté), cool quirky / weird / kitsch electronic music (weenie boppie version 3), and ambient techno (j+lhv4). The final track `oceans – reprise `, simply took my head off. What an amazing piece of pure ambient techno bliss: peaceful, meditative, relaxing. Words fail me to describe this chef d`oeuvre i.e. masterpiece. Great job senior Populaire. Get it here:

Monsieur Populaire - en stop motion (1992) (MP3)

He recorded this album while he was part of Disko-Tech, with Fred Everything (world renowned house / deep house DJ). His first effort `pensées de bouteille` was an abrasive / noisy, but still challenging and interesting listening experience. This second outing is a definite evolution in sounds / styles. The sequencing steps in, nice synthesizer works, good beats, more complex arrangements are at work here. This album offers a mix of: instrumental electronics, downtempo, bossa nova, techno, house, dare I say bedroom techno house music perhaps? Nice little album (10 tracks = 39.05 minutes), I liked everything. My favorite track is:
9 – weenie boppie (version 1)  = electronic + techno + house with bizarre, strange, quirky undertones. It reminds me of Monsieur Blumenger`s sole album release `musique et couleurs`, yes it`s that damned good. I gotta say DAMNED I`M IMPRESSED!  Get it here:  http://jimmybeaulieu.com/monsieur-populaire/
