Daft Punk – Tron legacy – original motion picture soundtrack (CD)
I never saw the original Tron
movie and I don`t plan on watching Tron legacy either. I remember
playing once the Tron videogame at the arcade, back in the day (1982). I
found the game boring, redundant and crappy. If you`re my age, when you used to
go at the arcade, most of the games were not that groundbreaking. Does anyone
remember Popeye, Dig Dug, Donkey Kong Jr, Joust, Burger
Time, Q-Bert, Sinistar and finally, Tron? Those games
came out in 1982 and most of them are pretty bad. A close friend gave me this
CD. To be honest, I had no expectations here but I`m always available for
freebies you know. It`s the first soundtrack work by Daft Punk in
collaboration with Joseph Trapanese. (a composer, arranger &
producer, he works in the production of music for television, movie, theater
and concerts). I was expecting the usual funky modern space disco from Daft
Punk. Man, am I wrong here. The music is a mixture of neo classical
arrangements, some classic synth music (à la Tangerine Dream / Jean-Michel
Jarre / old Vangelis), and funky instrumental electronic (i.e. Daft
Punk territory). An interesting album. I still don`t feel like watching the
movie but I recommend the soundtrack. It`s good, yes it`s that
good.
Plastikman – recycled plastic (CD)
If I would do a list
of my top ten electronic music albums of all time, among my top five I would
include Plastikman`s consumed CD. That seminal minimal techno album came
out in 1998 and it still sounds good / fresh / relevant today. I got lucky
recently one of my good buddies gave me a bunch of CD`s he wanted to throw
away. I`m always up for free music. This is Plastikman`s third album (it
came out in 1994, on NovaMute). The music is a mixture of electronic,
techno and acid with a good dose of minimalism. It took me some listening to
like it. It sounds like a rough draft from the album `consumed `and it
could be. Consumed was his follow-up release. You can hear / feel the
influences at work and he took it to the next level. My standout track is
1 – Krakpot
(11.13 minutes) = a long, slightly warped minimal acid techno. Definitely not
dancefloor oriented. Recommended to those pill-popping folks out there. Here`s

Orbital – Orbital (CD)
Do you feel lucky
punk? Well go ahead and make my day. My day was made when I found this CD at Renaissance
Montréal. Orbital, were formed by the brothers Paul & Phil
Hartnoll from Sevenoaks, Kent. UK. Orbital was an English electronic
dance / techno act (1991-2014). This self-titled effort is their first album. I
never heard their music before. I bought this album because I knew it was
electronic and at 2.00$ it`s a steal. I sit down have an ice-cold coffee put my
headphones on and away we go. This is not what I expected, dance oriented
techno music. It sounds terribly dated, which is normal considering it came out
in 1991. At the time, I`m sure the ravers enjoyed dancing to their
music. The more I hear this the more I like it, it grows on me. I like the energy,
the vibe. It makes me feel like grooving, dancing even if I`m not much of a
dancer. Good old school techno. Standout tracks are; the moebius, oolaa,

Être professionnel

Un autre lundi matin, une autre
semaine qui débute. Je suis assis au bureau de la réception. Je prends une
gorgée de mon cinquième café tout en ayant l`air souriant. Faut être
professionnel quoi.
–Bon matin François comment ça va ? Passé un bon week- end?
–Allo Natalia ça vas très bien merci (ça veut dire le contraire). J`ai passé un
fin de
semaine occupée et intense (intensément merdique pour être
franc).
-Et toi comment vas-tu ?
-Tu as l`air pâle as-tu bien dormi ?
-Léger problème d`insomnie (bullshit, ça fais trois jours que je ne dors pas,
j`ai mal au cou pis au dos, je m`ennuie de ma blonde qui est loin de moi, ma
famille me rend fou, je souffre d`anxiété, j`ai oublié de texter ma blonde
dimanche pis là elle est fâchée après moi, je la comprends, je ne sais pas quoi
lui répondre, je capote et je stresse de plus en plus, je pleure à l`intérieur,
crisse c`est sûr que je dors pas, j`ai tu l`air d`un robot moi). –Dors les mains par-dessus les couvertes, ah ah
ah.
–Oui c`est sûr (si ça serais ça je dormirais en tabarnak, mais là je suis trop
stressé, fatigué pour bander, mettons que j`ai pas la tête à
ça).

–Toi aussi Natalia (#/$%?&*« $****, en français dans le texte). J`ai deux
personnalités au travail et après. Je travaille pour vivre. Je ne vis pas pour
travailler. Ce n`est pas facile à gérer, surtout quand ça ne vas pas d`un côté
ou de l`autre. C`est le cas présentement. À moi de trouver la réponse à mes
questions. Je suis un adulte vacciné. Bon, je prends une bonne gorgée de café,
j`affiche mon plus beau sourire, il y un autre employé qui vient d`arriver,
faut être professionnel quoi.

Angel – kalmukia (CD)
The third album from this
experimental music duo of Ilpo Vaisanen (Panasonic) and Dirk
Dresselhaus (Millimeter & Schneider FM). This
recording came out in 2008 on Editions Mego. To be perfectly honest this
is a difficult listening experience. The music sounds like abstract, droning,
ambient noise (it gets loud at times) experimentations. I like to hear
something non-musical, once in a while even if it leaves me with feelings of uneasiness.
Angel likes to mix things up processed electric guitar / cello, loud
drones, ambient noise, found sound and bells / chimes perhaps. Slow moving /
ambient noise with meditative qualities. The last track `aftermath: the
mutation` (12.57 minutes) simply took my head off; ritualistic, meditative

Poopy Necroponde – burlap (CD)
Matt Lindsay is a Cleveland, Ohio, USA do it
yourself punk / metal / noise musician. His music / noise resume is huge. He
played / sang with Boy In Love, Breathilizor, Dingus, Doktor
Bitch, Fossil Fuel, Funerary Box, Pontius Pirate, Poopy
Dys, Prosthetic Youth, School Of Dicks, Shit Fried
Walnuts, The Lettuce Vultures, The Snack Food Association,
The TV Watchers, Zitsquatch and finally Sockeye. This is a
rather short seven songs album (33.39 minutes). The music moves between doom
metal, hard rock, rock & roll and heavy blues. My standout track of the day
5 – Flag waver (4.36) = blues
influenced hard rock, imagine a crossover between old ZZ Top and Sonic

Ø + Noto – mikro makro (CD)
A
rather short split CD (4 tracks = 41.01 minutes) with Ø (Mika
Vainio aka Panasonic, Finland) and Noto (Carsten Nicolai
from Germany). If you`re into synth-pop, chill-out, electronica, techno,
electro or any type of song oriented electronic music you`ll hate this album.
Then, if you`re into the finer things like ambient darkwave, noise, musique
concrete, electroacoustic, ambient noise , abstract and experimental, you will
dig this. An uneasy listening experience to say the least. A rewarding one
that`s for sure. This is good, real good. Here`s a brief description.

bursts = minimalism never felt so damned good.

Danimal Cannon and Zef – parallel processing (CD)
I bought this one out
of sheer curiosity at Renaissance Montréal (again, I just love this
place) for 2.00 $. It looked and felt like electronic music. All the songs were
created using LSDJ on Nintendo Gameboys, therefore it`s
electronically oriented, that`s for sure. Danimal Cannon (real name Daniel
Behrens) is an American video game composer and chiptune music performer.
Chiptune or 8-bit music is electronic music made with vintage computers, consoles
and arcade machines. The music on this album (8 tracks = 46.06 minutes) mixes
chiptune with glitch and electronics. Imagine music created with the Amiga, the
Commodore 64, the Sega Master System or the old NES. Interesting, but not my
cup of tea. I prefer hearing the original NES videogames soundtrack, for
instance: Super Mario Bros 2 & 3, Kid Icarus, Robowarrior,
Felix the cat, Adventure Island and Superpitfall. Here`s

Alice and the serial numbers – obit (CD)
Alice and the serial numbers is a one-woman electronic music band. Alice Bernier
uses samplers, synthesizers, sequencers, guitars and computers. She works with
a laptop computer and midi controllers when she performs live. Obit
which came out in 2003 is her second album (10 tracks = 39.44 minutes). I think
I have a copy of her first album titled Mission_01 lying somewhere at my
place. Upon hearing this CD, I would love to see her live. The music is a mix
of electronic an electro which sometimes feels / goes into old 8-bit videogame
music territory (anybody out there remembers the NES?). Like any artist, some
influences come to mind here: Oeuf Korreckt, Visage, Human
League, Robot Boulanger, I am robot and proud and Kraftwerk.
A good album with lots of groovy, dance floor grooves. Groovy robotic electro
with some nice hooks and a human touch. Standout tracks are:
