Mayan Apocalypse – Mayan Apocalypse (CD-R)

This is the first release from a brand new noise act (consisting of Thompson and Zachary Short `Black Beast Of Arrrghhh`himself) from Florida, USA. I love this album. It`s a mixture of noise and spoken rants. There`s five tracks, which are:

1- the vision: minimal electronics (recalls Suicide and \ or Corpusse) with some noise bursts (thrown in for good measure) colliding with Thompsn`s own spoken rant. An amazing epic piece indeed.

2- #@ you suck: bizarre noise constructions + spoken rant = an unclassifiable piece of sonic mayhem.

3- anarchy in the 727: I think that Mayan Apocalypse are not fans of the Sex Pistols (you gotta hear this to believe it).

4- the dream: we hear Thompson`s voice (with echo \ reverb included) mixed with lo-fi, toned down feedback. Experimental, almost dreamy noisescapes which slowly becomes a nightmarish reality.

5- the end: the conclusion, an out there, out of this world apocalyptic bleak nightmare. Loads of feedback confronting Thompson`s spoken rants. I need at least two Tylenols to survive this album. Magnificent. Get it here: Thompson

Tree – schizophrenic architecture (mp3)

I got this from www.archives.org (along a couple of GO of various cool freebies). This is a 13 track album of tape recorder and live recordings of Tree (Josh Boutwell) recorded by hand at Steele Grinder, Fort Myers, Florida, USA. After reading said description, I was really curious so I downloaded it right away. I`m a sucker for low-fi stuff, homemade recordings, improvised insanity, well anything that`s different i.e. out there. You won`t find any Michael Jackson, Beattles or Celine Dion in my music collection that`s for sure. Every tract in here  has it`s own style and personality. A difficult , challenging listen to say the least. This album is experimental noise which rarely goes into harsh noise territory. There`s the occasional noise burst here and there, but that`s it. There`s a  good variety of sounds mixed-in to keep this recording interesting. Personaly, I like this lil `(46.28 minutes) album. The standout track is number 9 `the Burmese cynic` a short acoustic noisy blues jam session, simply excellent. Get it here:

Oblongata – Oblongata (bootleg tape)

Another trade item.  No cover and no information whatsoever (I found nothing on the internet). Oblongate receives the award of the anonymous album of the day. There`s 6 tracks on this here recording. The `music` is dirty, noisy, heavily distorted, grungy guitar works (think Mudhoney, Alice In Chains, or Tad) with some peaceful moments (think ambient noise) thrown in. This isn`t my favorite experimental noise recording. I`m blasé `cause I`ve listened to a shitload of similar material. To be perfectly honest, three pieces caught my attention. The first one `00`is a nice slow, grungy, spacey attack of the senses. It sounds like being inside a space vacuum, wow! The second one `bells `, uses some nice percussive low-fi bell sounds (I like it, I like it). Thre last piece `sutara`. is a Jim Jonesesque, obsessive, catholic spoken word piece. The perfect way to end it.                       

Shameless self promotion department

. On Saturday night, November 10^th , 2012 The Butterman was spending the evening at my place. Butter was drinking some Smirnoff Ice (da big ass 1 liter bottle) and I was having a couple of blond L`Intrépide (an amazing microbrewery from Québec). We were discussing the future of `The CHRNCX Of Ridicule`, our internet video log. Why it was censored and what`s the next step in evolution. My laptop was just lying there and I though, wouldn`t it be great to record a complete noise album in one evening. I opened my good old sampler/recorder SoundEngine program. We created thirteen tracks of harsh experimental noiseworks.

Henriette Valium - music 02 (mini cd)

I bought this at Distroboto, in Montréal. I`m  addicted to Distroboto because every item is sold 2.00 $. This is a 41 song (of mp3 files which is perfect for my mp3 player) mini-album from local underground legend Henriette Valium. Valium is a multidisciplinary artist, drawing comix (he`s been published in Iceberg, Titanic, Hotel amongst others), illustration works and music (Valium Et Les Dépressifs). This is one of his various solo projects. The pseudo-intellectual critic would say that this is mindless noise wanking. I would say that this is near-chaotic noise experimentations. Samples are chopped-up, processed and looped. There`s definitely a song oriented structure at work here. Thus creating a strange sonic language. There`s a lot of percussions and percussive elements thrown in for good measure. This is a  pumped-up, psyched-up, speeded-up, cartoonesque noisy joyride. I like this.
